Sunpak Heaters

 Sunpak Heaters

These heater have been transforming chilly patio into comfortable outdoor spaces for decades.

The Sunpak® Models S25 & S34 are outdoor rated heaters available for use with natural or propane gas. These heaters can be either wall or ceiling mounted. The optional mounting kit allows this heater to be mounted from above keeping the patio deck free and clear. Heat coverage varies depending on the wind exposure on patio. The average spacing between the heaters is 10 feet apart.

Sunpak® comes with a 24 VAC spark ignition system which includes flame monitoring through flame rectification. All Sunpak Heaters require an external 24 VAC source.

As an unvented gas heater, Sunpak® heaters need a continuous supply of fresh air and proper ventilation of combustion gases to operate safely. This heater is not suitable for inside residences and other confined areas where the operational and safety requirements of this heater cannot be met. Refer to heater instructions, available online or from manufacturer for complete information.

The Sunpak® heater design offers a slim profile which works well in a wide variety of patio settings. Sunpak® heaters are available in either black powder coat or a 304 stainless steel finish.

Heater Installation
Sunpak Heaters are intended to be installed by qualified personnel specifically trained and experienced in the installation of this type of heater and related system components. Some states or provinces require installation and service personnel to be licensed. If you state or province is such, be sure your contractor bears the appropriate license. Persons not qualified shall not attempt to install or repair this heater.
For Outdoor Use Only
Sunpak heaters are designed for outside use only. They are not for use in residential dwellings or other confined areas. Semi-enclosed patio are permissible provided they have adequate permanent openings around the patio periphery and meet the requirements for outdoors as defined in the installation instructions.
Clearance from Combustible Materials
Sunpak heaters all require a minimum distance from walls and ceilings. This is an important consideration for your design. The S34 will require greater clearances than the S25.  The clearance also changes with the mounting angle.  Refer to instructions for details
NOTE: Different Clearance Requirements for S34 & S25

Comfort Level

Typically you can expect the radiant heat to spread about 10 feet in each direction increasing the comfort level 5-10 deg F. outdoors.

Ventilation
Sunpak Heaters require adequate combustion air and ventilation to operate safely and efficiently. This requires openings above and below the level of the heater. Refer to the heater instructions for more detail.
Electrical Requirements
Sunpak® Heaters come with a 24 VAC spark ignition system which includes flame monitoring through flame rectification. All Sunpak S34 & S25 heaters with standard controls require an external 24 VAC Transformer. Transformer should never be placed inside the heater.
Gas Pressure
Sunpak® Heaters require a minimum inlet pressure of 6″ water column for natural gas and 11″ water column for propane gas. Gas pressure should never exceed 1/2 PSI or 14″ water column. For gas pressures exceeding 1/2 PSI a high-pressure regulator is required before the gas enters the heater.
Agency Certification
Sunpak heaters are design certified by the CSA under the ANSI Z83.19 standard
Heater Gas Conversion
The factory does not support converting heaters to different gases. Each heater has been setup and tested for a specific gas type.  Please make sure you select the correct gas type, Natural or Propane gas, before making your purchase.
A Word About Stainless
Stainless Steel Sunpak Heaters will tend to discolor around the flue opening at the top of the heater. This is normal due to the high temperatures where the combustion gases exit the heater. A small amount of discoloration over time does not represent a malfunction of the heater.
Marine Environment
Sunpak heater durability may vary greatly depending on the climate. Sunpak heaters hold up well in the outdoor environment, but in a heavy marine environment the salt air and moisture can accelerate corrosion, diminishing the overall life of the heater.  Even when a high grade of stainless steel is used for the outer casing, the burner and pilot are subjected to a extra wear by the salt air environment. When heaters are located near the water an extra level of care is required, and the operational life may be limited as compared to other environments.
